DIY Christmas Mason Jars
You'll need just a handful of simple supplies to make your own mason jars for Christmas, including jars and paint!

To make your Christmas craft using mason jars, you'll just need a few simple craft supplies, including:
- Mason jars: You can use any size or style mason jars for this craft, depending on what you want your Christmas mason jars to look like and how you plan to use them in your holiday decorations.
- White and red paint: I suggest using white chalk paint for this craft because it works well when painting jars. But you can use regular acrylic craft paint for the red paint if you want.
- Masking tape: You'll need to use masking tape to create the stripes on the jars. Look for a tape that has a light adhesive to keep from pulling your base coat off the jars when you remove the tape.
- Sandpaper: Use fine-grit sandpaper to destress your jars to add some rustic farmhouse charm to the Christmas decorations when you're finished painting them.
- Twine: Decorate the top of your jar with a piece of jute twine to give it a rustic look.
- Jar filler: Add Christmas picks or other jar fillers to your jars when you're finished painting them to complete the holiday look.
How to Decorate Mason Jars for Christmas

One of my favorite ways to decorate mason jars is with paint! Painting mason jars is a quick and easy way to transform your jar into a pretty decorative piece for any holiday or occasion. I've painted jars for a variety of different uses, including twine wrapped mason jar planters and adorable Toy Story mason jars for my son's party!
The key to getting your jars to look amazing when you paint them is picking the right kind of paint. When painting mason jars, I always use chalk paint as the base coat. In this case, I used white chalk paint to create a base on my jars. Chalk paint works well because of its chalky matte finish. The finish allows it to stick to the smooth glass without cracking or pulling away from the jar as it dries.
So, to make these DIY Christmas mason jars, start by painting a base coat of white chalk paint on each of your jars. Continue adding coats until you have a smooth finish with complete coverage over the jars.
Then, you can make your red candy cane stripes on your jars with the help of masking tape. Place pieces of masking tape down the side of the jars to create stripes. Be sure to press the tape firmly in place along uneven areas, like around the rim and over any decorative elements on your jars.

Once your tape is secure, you can start painting the red strips. Paint red on the areas of the jar that are exposed, painting over the white spots. If you're worried about the paint bleeding through under the tape, take a second to add a coat of white paint over the areas where the tape meets the jar. This coat will help you avoid bleeds.
Since I wanted my jars to look rustic, I wasn't as concerned about paint bleeding, so I went straight for the red paint to create my stripes. To paint the red stripes, I used red acrylic craft paint.

When the red paint is completely dry, carefully remove the tape from the jars. You can then go in with a small paint brush and touch up areas that bled or peeled off from removing the tape.
After touching up the paint on your Christmas mason jars, it's time to start destressing. Use fine-grit sandpaper or a sanding block to distress the jars, paying special attention to raised areas of the jar, like the label, decorative designs, and around the rim of the jars.

Finish by tying a rustic twine bow around the top. Or pick a fun holiday ribbon to decorate the top of your jars before you start adding your florals.

If you're looking for ways to decorate with your Christmas mason jars, I have plenty of ideas for you:
Add floral picks to create a Christmas display. This is what I did! I grabbed a few floral picks and added them to the jar to create a Christmas floral arrangement inside each jar. Then, you can display the jars where ever you need some added greenery.
Line up your jars to make a Christmas centerpiece. Use your Christmas mason jars to create a festive holiday centerpiece on your dining room table. You can fill the jars with holiday florals to create a rustic display for Christmas dinner.
Add candles to create luminaries. Place a candle inside the jar to create a pretty light display for Christmas using your mason jars.
